Abstract
Halal is a term used to describe items and actions that are acceptable in Islam, including food, medication, and way of life decisions. The medical viewpoint is concerned with making sure that goods and services are beneficial and safe for human use. Wet cupping therapy, known as Hijamah, constitutes a medical practice rooted in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad SAW. To oversee traditional and complementary medical practices, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health established the Traditional and Complementary Medicines Division (TCM) in February 2004. Within this framework, Hijamah therapy is recognised as one of the traditional and complementary techniques. As stipulated by the TCM Act of 2016, the Ministry of Health possesses the authority to formulate policies and mandate standards for Hijamah practitioners, ensuring that treatments are evidence-based and secure. This study delves into how Hijamah practitioners respond to and implement the latest policies from the MOH’s TCM Division. Through semi-structured interviews, participants’ comprehension of the ministry’s recommended best practices is being explored. This data collection lays the groundwork for a subsequent investigation into perceptions and expectations surrounding the provision of Hijamah services within the rapidly expanding Muslim-friendly healthcare sector. Practitioners are generally guided by Maqasid al-Shari’ah principles, primarily safeguarding a patient’s life, intellect, and possessions during the practice of Hijamah.
