Abstract
This article discusses the importance of Badi'uzzaman Said Nursi (1876-1960), a modern Islamic thinker and his struggle in making Islam sovereign in Turkey. His contributions started from the era of Ottoman Turkey to the establishment and development of the Modern Republic of Turkey in the era of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. This study is qualitative focused on the history of Said Nursi's struggle in Turkey, and important issues that have an impact on the relationship between the old and the new for re-evaluation. This historical research gives an understanding of the origin of the event and the perspective of the situation with the present. The findings of the study show that Badi'uzzaman Said Nursi is a Muslim scholar and mujahid who fights on the behalf of Islam for Muslims in Turkey. He contributed a lot in terms of knowledge and effort in defending the position of Islam in Turkey. There are many lessons that can be learned from his character, among which the Islamic struggle must always be fought until the end of life.
