Abstract
In the era of the Anthropocene, a change in the way we educate and emerge as a society can only succeed based on a strong understand of past educational ideas. Sejahtera is one of the indigenous concepts that has been the way of living for communities in the Malay Archipelago for centuries. It has contributed to the peaceful, harmonious and sustainable societies that the region is known for. In present time, the concept of Sejahtera is gaining traction again in response to the very complex issues of unsustainable development in this Anthropocene era. Sejahtera is seen as the most sustainable way of living not only because it is an indigenous concept but also its compatibility with the teachings of the main religions in the region, namely Islam, Confucianism and Hinduism. Many elements in the Sejahtera concept are very much aligned with the nature and purpose of education that is needed to ensure the future of our planet.
