Stroke knowledge and information needs among students: a review of literature.

Abstract
In 2013, reported globally, almost 25.7 million stroke survivors
6.5 million stroke fatalities, 113 million disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) lost due to stroke and 10.3 million new cases of stroke. Department of Statistics, Malaysia addressed stroke emerged as one of the top five leading causes of mortality since 2000. Effective post-stroke care is essential to improve outcomes for both patients and families. Limited skills, competence and low levels of awareness and knowledge, represent barriers to optimal evidence-based practice in stroke care. Previous literatures addressed that nurses did not have the adequate knowledge and skills to allow them to screen for and treat dysphagia in post-stroke patients. The objectives of this presentation is to update the current literatures on stroke knowledge and informational needs among students.
