Abstract

Cognitive enhancement is the growth or augmentation of the mind's core capacities via the improvement or expansion of internal or external information processing systems. Edible bird nest (EBN) is a natural dietary ingredient formed from the saliva of edible velvet nests. Supplementation with EBN has been shown to boost brain growth in animals. During times of fast brain development, notably in premature newborns, the bioactivity and nutritional value of EBN are substantial. Nevertheless, the effect of EBN on learning and memory regulation is uncertain. This chapter attempts to show the neuroprotective properties of EBN and its possible cognitive-enhancing effects.
