Abstract
History encompasses various aspects surrounding human societies including politics, economy, culture as well as relations between different countries or nation-states. Under economic history, there are various practices and systems which are deemed directly relevant such as trade and commerce, banking and finance, taxation, etc. Of these practices and systems, trade and commerce can be found in operation since ancient times, contributing to the rise and development of states and kingdoms. While flourishing trade and commerce resulted in positive impacts on states and kingdoms, declining trade and commerce have the reverse effects, leading at times, along with other factors, to the fall of states and kingdoms. In the present modern society, entrepreneurship is naturally affiliated with commerce and trade as they deal with similar set of skills and knowledge that are needed in performing economic transactions. There are many historical accounts highlighting matters related to trade and commerce, or entrepreneurship in the past, hence verifying the importance of this type of economic activity in human history.
