Abstract

This study discusses Hermeneutics in terms of its history and its use as a method of analysis as well as its comparison with the takwil method in the interpretation of texts. The method used in this study is qualitative with a library study approach and comparative analysis. Hermeneutics was originally a study of text interpretation in the Bible whereas Takwil was a study of interpretations of the Koran particularly for verses that have inner meanings. Until their scientific development, in terms of the method there are actually a number of resemblances, but there are also differences in the fundamental principles of the two studies. The purpose of this study is to show how the history of the two studies is, how the methods are, and how the two studies compare.
