Abstract
The aim of this inquiry is to determine indicators that reflect the actual levels that non-Arabic speaking students attained in learning Arabic as a second language at Iqraa Institute for Teaching Arabic in Kuala Lumpur –an educational institution under the jurisdiction of Saudi schools in Malaysia-. Another aim is to highlight language difficulties and obstacles faced by students at Iqraa Institute. To achieve these aims the inquiry adopted a descriptive approach which consisted of a Questionnaire for data collection. The targeted population in the inquiry was 4th 5th and 6th level students at Iqraa institute, and the sample size consisted of 49 students, which represented the actual full number of students active in the institute in the period of the study. Results of the inquiry revealed that beside conventional language attainment difficulties, non-Arabic speaking students at Iqraa Institute suffered from acute difficulties in acquiring Arabic communication skills. Hence, there is a need to review the existing the teaching methods at the Institute of Iqraa, and to develop a more effective teaching strategy, which focuses on speaking and listening skills.
