Abstract

How foreigners receive instructions to protect themselves from COVID-19 is the subject of this study. Social campaigns have focused on its own citizens while few or limited attention is given on how foreigners subject themselves to accept the safety instructions given by the government. The world struggles with fighting COVID-19 pandemic and authorities release many measurements to control the crisis. The Malaysian government has asked people to follow some instructions, including social distancing and cleaning hands, which are aimed to control the spread of COVID-19 under the Movement Controlled Order (MCO). Malaysian citizens and foreigners perceived the MCO warning instructions in different ways. This study examined how Yemeni students in Malaysia receive the MCO warning instructions in social distancing and cleaning hands and whether the difference in gender and educational level affect the students' perception of the MCO warning instructions. An online survey was made and 152 respondents participated. The results revealed that Yemeni students, although foreigners, positively and significantly received the MCO instructions. The study also found that the difference in educational level affected the students' perception while the difference in gender did not.
