Abstract

as wound-healing and also act as an antioxidant, antiaging and whitening agents due to the presence of asiaticoside. In this study, the extraction of asiaticoside from C. asiatica was done using Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) method as it was believed to produce highly concentrated extracts with mild operating temperature and also reduce the elimination of hazardous solvent wastes. This research was focused on the effect of co-solvent percentage, pressure and temperature on the asiaticoside content extracted using SFE. The effects of co-solvent percentage, pressure and temperature on asiaticoside content extracted from C. asiatica using SFE were successfully analyzed using Two-Level Factorial response surface model experimental design. Besides, analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a p-value significance level of 0.05 was used to scrutinize the significance of the factors on the yield of asiaticoside. In Two-Level Factorial screening experiment, co-solvent, pressure and temperature were significantly influenced the yield of asiaticoside content. Moreover, the interaction effect between each factor were also found to be statistically significant and were varied during optimization of the factors, using contour map and response surface method. The optimal extraction conditions for asiaticoside content yield within the experimental range of the variables researched were at 9.96769 %, 79.998 °C and 10 MPa for co-solvent, temperature and pressure, respectively.
