Abstract

In Malaysia, there are numerous opportunities for a better education in our public universities are ever increasing. Students who are given the chance to attain education in any public university in Malaysia are subsidized by the government and, therefore, they are expected to achieve good academic performance. Apart from academic activities, students are expected to be involved in extracurricular activities throughout their journey at university. The main objective of this research was to examine the relationship between extracurricular activities which are students’ society and sports on academic performance. Results of this preliminary study involving 71 students from Kulliyyah of Languages and Management demonstrated evidence for construct validity and reliability. In terms of the direct relationship between extracurricular activities and academic performance, none of the hypotheses were supported. This was because extracurricular activities lead to other soft skills. The implications of this research are students need to consider each component of extracurricular activities in detail to ensure the success of their academic performance.
