Abstract
*************************************************************************************** Without doubt youths are the leaders of tomorrow. The youths, the driving force of a nation, will lead and embrace the future in the field of economics, and socio-politics of the country. This paper will study media use in the daily lives of the Malaysian youths in addition to focusing on their political interest. Three studies were conducted during the general elections in Malaysia, the first in March 2008, the second in July 2013 and the third in January 2018. Respondents for this study were between the ages of 21 to 35 years. Respondents were selected nation-wide through quota sampling by face-to-face interviews lasting between 30 to 45 minutes. The survey involved 668 respondents in 2008, 559 respondents in 2013 and 1092 respondents in 2018. The findings of the study found that from 2008 to 2018, television viewing and newspaper reading decreased compared to the use of Internet which rose from 9% 2008 to 46% in 2018. Although the internet has become increasingly popular among Malaysian voters yet the voters still placed trust in the traditional media as sources of information. This can be seen in the results of the three-year study where the majority of the voters (over 70%) expressed their trust on television than on the Internet. The level of media usage and confidence in the media has also affected interest in politics.
