Abstract

Guru mempunyai peranan yang cukup besar dalam institusi pendidikan formal. Mereka berperanan menyampaikan ilmu, mendidik, membimbing dan memimpin pelajar menjadi individu yang baik serta mampu menghadapi cabaran dalam kehidupan. Proses pendidikan memerlukan guru mempunyai sikap yang jelas terhadap profesion mereka. Kajian ini bertujuan mengkaji sikap guru terhadap profession keguruan dan dijalankan di beberapa buah Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA), Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS). Ia melibatkan dua zon, iaitu Zon Tengah (Gombak) dan Zon Utara (Hulu Selangor). Seramai 452 orang guru agama yang bertugas di sekolah-sekolah tersebut telah dipilih sebagai sampel dengan menggunakan kaedah convenience sampling. Instrumen kajian adalah menggunakan borang soal selidik, manakala data-data yang diperoleh melalui kajian ini telah dianalisis dengan menggunakan program SPSS for Windows (Version 14.0). Seterusnya, analisis statistik deskriptif yang merangkumi peratus dan kekerapan telah digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Secara umumnya, berdasarkan dapatan yang diperoleh, majoriti daripada responden berpuas hati dengan ciri-ciri sikap guru agama yang mengajar di SRA-JAIS. Guru-guru sekolah rendah agama memiliki ciri-ciri sikap guru yang positif dan sesuai dengan bidang perguruan. Namun demikian, kajian ini juga menunjukkan beberapa dapatan yang agak negatif terhadap beberapa item yang dikemukakan seperti guru-guru tidak menepati waktu dan tidak bersedia untuk berkhidmat di luar waktu tugas rasmi. Abstract: Teachers play a great role in formal education. They are responsible to disseminate knowledge, educate and produce students who are able to face any challenges in their life. Certainly, educational process requires teachers who realize their main responsibilities and have positive attitudes towards teaching profession. Therefore, this study attempts to investigate teacher’s attitudes towards teaching profession. A convenience sample consists of 452 Islamic primary school teachers in two zones of Selangor (Center-Gombak) and (North-Hulu Selangor) was selected. The study employs a survey method, where a set of questionnaire was developed to gather the data. A simple descriptive statistical analysis was used to provide meanings to the data. It includes percentages, frequencies and means. Findings of the study show that respondents have positive perceptions towards teachers at Islamic primary schools under the Department of Islamic Affairs of Selangor. The study also reveals that teachers have positive attitudes towards their professions. Thus, they are suitable to work in this field. However, some negative findings are also found, such as teachers do not attend the class on time and they are not willing to work outsides official hours stipulated.
