Abstract
Many Bangladeshis who lived under three flags—British India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh—have passed away, while their surviving contemporaries don’t have much longer to live. Shah Abdul Hannan (1939–2021) belonged to that generation and dared to challenge the status quo and the established order, setting examples of good practices for others to follow. He worked tirelessly with honesty and rectitude and strove to the end in the service of his country and its people. Thus, he left a mark that will last for generations. Written by his colleagues, students, and admirers, the essays contained in this volume identify three motivating factors that influenced Shah Abdul Hannan’s ideas and conduct: his devotion to Islam, commitment to integrity, and love for his country.
