Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the impact of studying financial courses on the process of making financial decisions in reallife situations among high school students in Jeddah high schools. The study adopted the descriptive methodology and included a sample of 377 male and female students. A questionnaire was utilized as the main tool to achieve the study’s objectives. The findings revealed several key results, most notably the significant impact of studying financial courses on the process of making financial decisions in real-life situations among the study sample. The study also identified substantial obstacles to the process of making financial decisions in these situations. Furthermore, the results showed no statistically significant differences in the responses of the study sample regarding the impact of studying financial courses on financial decision-making based on gender. However, there were statistically significant differences based on the father’s level of education, while no significant differences were found concerning the mother’s level of education. Additionally, the study found no statistically significant differences based on the type of school attended. In light of these findings, the study provided several recommendations. Among them was the necessity of incorporating dimensions of financial decision-making in real-life situations into financial curricula for high school students. The study also emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of saving and spending among students through collaboration between families and schools. Additionally, it recommended designing training programs for high school students to enhance their financial decision-making skills and encourage them to seriously plan for their futures. The study further highlighted the need to create a supportive environment that encourages students to engage in goal-oriented saving behaviors, which help then to be responsible after graduation from schools
