Abstract

Every transaction or commitment by a bank has implications for its liquidity, making it essential to be managed effectively. This study focuses on the liquidity management practices of Islamic banks in the Republic of Tajikistan, and explores the need for innovative and efficient Shariah- compliant liquidity management instruments. There are limited liquidity management instruments available for Islamic banks in the country that require additional measures due to their unique characteristics and requirements. The study employed semi- structured interviews with local and international experts and a library research method. The research proposed a comprehensive Shariah compliant liquidity management program, identified potential liquidity problems, suggested innovative alternative liquidity instruments, and restructured liquidity management on both liability and asset sides. The study is expected to assist Islamic banks, enrich the literature about liquidity management instruments, and be a cornerstone for conducting more research in this area.
