Abstract
This paper aims to discuss the multifaceted challenges hindering the pursuit of sustainable development within Muslim families in the modern era. While the principles of sustainable development encompass economic, social, and environmental dimensions, the intersection with cultural and religious practices within Muslim families presents unique complexities. The paper identifies and examines various contemporary obstacles impeding sustainable development. These challenges encompass socio-economic disparities, gender inequality, shifting cultural dynamics, and the struggle to balance tradition with evolving societal norms. Economic disparities often limit access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, impacting the ability of Muslim families to achieve sustainable livelihoods. This paper is based on a descriptive analytical method, and it uses qualitative research to analyse the available literature. The anticipated findings of this paper emphasise the need for tailored strategies and interventions that respect cultural values while addressing these challenges. Initiatives focusing on education, empowerment, economic inclusivity, and progressive reinterpretation of religious teachings are essential to overcome these hurdles. By fostering inclusivity, empowering women, and integrating sustainable practices into cultural and religious frameworks, avenues for achieving sustainable development within Muslim families can be navigated. The benefit of this study is to stimulate further research, dialogue, and action-oriented approaches to address the intricate challenges hindering sustainable development within Muslim families in the contemporary context.
