Abstract

The article discusses the serious issue of children dying after being left behind in vehicles, known as "forgotten baby syndrome". It outlines contributing factors like changes in routine, stress, multitasking, fatigue, and the habit vs prospective memory mechanisms in the brain. Several strategies are suggested to address this issue. Technology solutions like rear seat reminder apps could help. Research and development by universities and industry with government funding and incentives is important. The government needs to establish policies, coordinate between ministries, and run nationwide campaigns to raise awareness. NGOs should develop targeted community engagement programs and modules. Employers must provide a conducive work environment and manage employee cognitive load. Individuals need to take responsibility through time management, self-care, and prioritizing child safety. A holistic approach involving the government, industry, NGOs, employers, and individuals is required. Technologies like apps can aid prevention but government leadership is crucial for interventions to succeed. National campaigns raise awareness while NGO social interventions provide impact. Employers should enable a supportive workplace and individuals must take responsibility. Sustained collaborative efforts by all stakeholders are key to protecting children from harm and preventing similar tragedies.
