Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted all sectors of the economy, with the energy industry being hit particularly hard. The decline in the global economic outlook has resulted in a sharp drop in oil prices, which has had a significant impact on energy industries worldwide. Given this unprecedented situation, our study aims to explore how the relationship or correlation of energy stocks listed on Bursa Malaysia has been affected. To do this, we have employed the triangulated maximally filtered graph (TMFG) approach, which is a useful tool for analyzing complex datasets. Specifically, this study examines the impact of COVID-19 on shariah-compliant energy stocks in Bursa Malaysia between 2019 and 2020. The network is built using the triangulated maximally filtered graph technique (TMFG). The degree centrality measure is then applied to examine the network's structure. The results show that the strength of the correlation is become stronger during the COVID-19. In addition, Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd (HIBI) maintain as the most influential stock for both period. Our study offers market participants valuable insights into the energy market's condition, allowing them to make informed decisions about portfolio management and policy implementation.
