Abstract

Sociology, as a branch of social science, deals with social changes, including political changes. However, the works upon the latest years of the Ottoman and, in particular, a few decades of newly born Republican Turkish cases primarily focus on political changes through certain political elites. Even though I mention above two distinct periods, I argue that there is continuity in terms of the political elite’s involvement and determining the future of the state through the separation of state and religion applied through from evolutionary to revolutionary methods. This continuity is observed in the political ideologies and practices of Mustafa Kemal who was the product of the Ottoman military-bureaucratic system and became affiliated to some or more considerable extent to the political movements such as İttihad ve Terakki (Center of Union Party-CUP) as well. As such, the fundamentals of the CUP, which laid in the revolutionary ideology, occurred in the structure of a secret organization of Young Ottomans in Salonica (Selanik) in the center of Balkania.
