Abstract

Gasing Uri is a traditional heritage game from Kelantan, historically played mainly by adult men. The game attracted large crowds and drew people from all levels of society, fostering unity and social interaction. In the past, communities gathered to watch matches, especially after the harvest season, using the occasion to reconnect, exchange knowledge, and strengthen relationships. However, the rise of digital and console games has reduced young people’s interest in traditional activities. The younger generation spends more time indoors with gadgets, creating a generational gap and threatening the survival of cultural heritage such as Gasing Uri. This article highlights Abe Nor, a fourth-generation Gasing Uri player, as a key figure in preserving the game. Using a qualitative research approach based on Bandura’s self-efficacy theory (1977), the study employs content analysis and interviews with Abe Nor. He explains that Gasing Uri once united communities and encouraged social bonding. Today, however, many young people—especially those in urban areas—are unfamiliar with the game. To sustain this tradition, the Gasing Uri community is working with the Kelantan government to promote the game through exhibitions and events at Gelanggang Seni Kota Bharu, ensuring it is passed down to future generations.
