Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly developing in healthcare. However, comprehensive analysis of research trends in the neonatal field is still limited. This study aims to analyze research trends related to AI in neonatal care by identifying publication patterns and novel opportunities for further research. This study employs a bibliometric approach to analyze data from Scopus using the keywords “artificial intelligence AND neonatal”. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were established, and manuscript screening was conducted before analysis to ensure the relevance of selected studies. The final dataset was analyzed using Scopus and VOSviewer. Of the 716 articles, 142 were eligible for review. The research trend has increased throughout the year, with developed countries dominating. Most funding sponsors are health institutions that support medicine and computer science as the most common subject areas. The results of the analysis show four research themes emerging in this area, namely: (1) technology and AI in neonatal health; (2) methods for detection, diagnosis, and management of neonatal diseases; (3) risk factors and neonatal health conditions; (4) monitoring and evaluation of neonatal health. Research on this topic continues to develop multidisciplinary, with recent trends focusing on diagnostic management and genetic screening. Recent research on AI in neonatal care is still dominated by explainable AI, genetic newborn screening, and AI model validation, while AI for early detection, personalized neonatal care, and ethical and legal aspects are rarely researched and have the potential to become innovative research areas.
