Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into Islamic Studies has created significant opportunities for research, education, and knowledge sharing. However, the scholarly landscape of this interdisciplinary field remains underexplored. This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research trends in Islamic Studies within the ICT domain, focusing on publications from 1990 to 2025. Using Scopus, the analysis includes 4,190 English-language journal articles and conference papers in computer science and engineering. Bibliometrix, VOSviewer, and Excel were used to examine publication trends, keywords, citations, and collaborative networks. Results show a steady rise in publications from 1990 to the late 2000s, followed by substantial growth after 2009, especially after 2015. Research productivity peaked in 2019. The dataset covers 762 sources and 10,379 authors, reflecting a broad and collaborative research community. Geographical analysis highlights contributions from 99 countries, with Malaysia, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia as the most productive. Citation analysis indicates that Malaysia leads in total citations, while China and Canada have higher citation impact per publication. Keyword and network analyses reveal major research themes, including Qur’anic studies, Islamic finance, computational text analysis, and digital Islamic education, underscoring the multidisciplinary nature of research at the intersection of Islamic Studies and ICT. This study offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, and lays the groundwork for future analyses in emerging technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and Islamic Studies.
