Abstract

This study examines the role of zakat in achieving social solidarity for orphans through a comparative analysis of the Malaysian experience and Afghan society, in light of contemporary social and economic challenges. The research problem lies in the weak institutional utilization of zakat funds for orphan care within Afghan society, in contrast to the Malaysian model, which has achieved tangible outcomes in this field. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, complemented by a comparative method, by analyzing Islamic legal texts related to zakat and examining institutional experiences in zakat management in both countries. The findings indicate that the Malaysian experience has succeeded in improving the conditions of orphans through an organized institutional system based on transparency, planning, and sustainability, which has contributed to providing education, healthcare, and vocational training. In contrast, Afghanistan faces multiple challenges, most notably weak institutional structures, limited resources, and the absence of effective mechanisms for zakat management. The study recommends developing a transparent central system for zakat administration in Afghanistan, strengthening cooperation between governmental bodies and charitable organizations, and benefiting from the Malaysian experience in supporting orphans and achieving social justice.
