Features of the omani linguistic school: an analytical study of linguistic treatises and didactic poems.

Abstract
This study aims to identify the defining features of the Omani linguistic school and to
demonstrate the contributions of scholars from the Sultanate of Oman to the service of the
Arabic language and its sciences. It does so through an analytical study of the linguistic treatises
and didactic poems produced within the Omani scholarly environment from the fourth to the
fourteenth century AH. The study examines the major areas of linguistic authorship,
particularly lexicography, grammar, morphology, and rhetoric, while also investigating the
distinctive characteristics of these works, their scholarly and pedagogical methodologies, and
the nature of their relationship with the broader Arabic linguistic tradition. The research adopts
a descriptive-analytical method in studying linguistic texts and analysing their contents. It also
employs the historical method to trace the development of Omani linguistic authorship, its
connection with the major linguistic schools, and the influence of the scholarly and cultural
environment in shaping this intellectual production. The study further seeks to highlight the
pedagogical orientation that characterised Omani linguistic works, as reflected in their reliance
on concision, versification, abundant educational commentaries, and the simplification of
grammatical rules for learners, while preserving the scholarly foundations of Arabic linguistic
studies. The study concludes that the Omani linguistic school was marked by continuity and
methodological diversity. It made an original contribution to enriching the Arabic linguistic
heritage across its various fields by combining scholarly authenticity with pedagogical
function. This confirms its active intellectual presence within the historical development of
Arabic linguistic scholarship across the ages.
