Abstract

Open mandibular fractures with floating segments are uncommon but potentially life-threatening injuries requiring prompt emergency management. We report a 40-year-old male who sustained a compound mandibular fracture following a motorcycle accident. Clinical examination revealed exposed mandibular bone, malocclusion, multiple displaced teeth, and a mobile floating mandibular segment. Computed tomography confirmed a displaced right parasymphysis fracture. Initial management followed Advanced Trauma Life Support principles, including airway assessment, haemorrhage control, cervical spine immobilization, antibiotics, and analgesia. Bedside interdental wiring with arch bar fixation provided temporary stabilization before definitive open reduction and internal fixation. Early recognition and emergency stabilization are essential to prevent complications and optimize functional outcomes.
