Abstract
“Duty of care” is a legal concept based on tort law that imposes an obligation on a person, whether natural or legal, to exercise a standard of reasonable care while performing any act that could reasonably be expected to cause harm to others. As one of the three elements that make up “negligence”, the duty of care requires that individuals act prudently and reasonably in their interactions with others to avoid injury or harm. To succeed in a negligence action, a plaintiff must prove, inter alia, that the defendant owed him a “duty of care”.
