Abstract
Rising fuel prices driven by Middle East conflicts are placing growing pressure on Malaysia’s higher education sector. Universities face higher operating and research costs, while students struggle with increased living expenses. Academic mobility and international collaboration are also affected due to rising travel costs. However, the crisis creates opportunities for sustainable transformation, including renewable energy adoption and digital learning. Targeted government support and institutional strategies are crucial to ensure resilience, affordability, and the continued quality of higher education in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
