Prof. Ruslan Hassan has been a civil engineer (since 1980) and a professional engineer (Malaysia) (since 1991). He has been in academia and the consulting world. He holds a B. Eng. (Hon.) (Civil Engineering) (UiTM), an MS (Sanitary Engineering) (Syracuse) (NY), a PhD (Soil and Water Engineering) (UPM), and a PhD (Education) (IIUM). He also obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Islamic Studies (IIUM) (1993). He holds joint appointments as a Professor in Civil Engineering (IIUM)(2023-) and the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC)(2023-). He was a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, UK (1991) and a Senior Research Fellow at MITRANS, Shah Alam (2012-2017).
