Abstract

Heritage tourism activity rapidly growing sector in tourism industry based on historic and traditional value attracting visitors to visit historical places such as archaeological sites, monuments, artifacts, tangible, and intangible traditional and cultural heritage. In enticing visitors to the destination, a historic site must continually develop meaningful and extraordinary experiential offerings to keep visitors coming. There is a need to link the heritage urban landscape as a national identity for promoting local tourism heritage sites. The paper uses the historic royal town of Jugra, a town located west of Kuala Lumpur, as a case study potential of highlighting digitizing its resources in heritage urban landscape including its architectural palace - as an example of multicultural national content in heritage management and edutainment. This case study uses a literature review to identify and dig up the historical tale of each cultural and heritage asset in the royal town of Jugra which was an administrative town of Selangor State in the 18th century during the reign of the 4th Sultan of Selangor. By highlighting the layering in its history and multicultural elements, a storyboard and heritage trail are developed. The paper highlights that by identifying the historical significance of a heritage town, its elements can be used in digital heritage efforts in tourism and informal education. The study contributes to engaging mixed reality digital heritage as a marketing strategy with content and specific historical sites in edutainment format to embrace education and enjoyment for the intellectual, emotional, and aesthetical reasons for preserving and promoting heritage tourism in Malaysia.
