Social Intelligence and its Relation to Critical Thinking for a Sample of Post-Basic Education Students in A’sharqiyah North Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman

Abstract

This quantitative study discussed social intelligence and critical thinking among students of post-basic education, when the problem lies, through what the researcher noticed during her work in teaching; From emotional, behavioral and social problems, and introversion problems for some students, in addition to the difficulties they face in expressing their opinions, making important decisions about the topics they face, and solving problems. So the study aims; To reveal the level of social intelligence and the level of critical thinking among students, and to diagnose the nature of the relationship between the level of social intelligence and the level of critical thinking. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach. The study population consisted of all (3717) twelfth grade students, the study sample consisted of (400) male and female students. Verbal behavior from (30) paragraphs. The second scale: The critical thinking test consisted of (51) items distributed in five sub-tests, thus the number of items for the two study scales reached (111) items. The following statistical analysis methods were used: descriptive analysis, alpha stability coefficient test, Pearson correlation coefficient. The findings revealed that: that the test of social behavioral attitudes; It was with a high degree, the verbal behavioral attitudes test with a medium degree, that the level of social intelligence among the sample members was medium. And the level of critical thinking was low. There is a relationship between the total degree of critical thinking and social behavioral attitudes at the level (0.01). There is no relationship between the total score of the dimensions of social intelligence and the total score of the dimensions of critical thinking. In light of the results, a set of recommendations and proposals were developed, including: The necessity of preparing training programs to develop both social intelligence and critical thinking skills among students, which would help them understand themselves and others, free themselves from dependence, and make sound decisions about matters that concern them.
