Abstract
This paper presents a framework for regulating religious extremism based on correlation between good governance and religious extremism. The first part of the paper provides a general study of religious extremism. It asserts that religious sentiments could be utilized to mobilize the masses by terrorist organizations and radical movements. The paper further suggests that religious extremism increasingly becomes a serious concern in Malaysia, which has been hailed for decades as an oasis of moderate Islam. The second part of the paper aims at analysing the factors contributing to the rise of religious extremism in Malaysia based on a quali-quantitative method using survey data gathered in KL in 2019 by the authors of this proposed paper, expert interviews, and secondary literature.
