Abstract
Literature has not documented much on the study of grief group in Malaysia. Neither has a research focused on the grief responses of the bereaved been conducted. A semi-structured group was conducted to explore the Malays’ grief experiences and their coping reactions after the death of their loved ones. This grief group or bereavement support group was proposed as part of a qualitative study conducted to understand the nature of grief among the bereaved Malay group participants. The study has provided a positive testimony on the use of grief/ bereavement support groups for the bereaved family members. The findings provide the foundation for the creation of support group as potential support system for the bereaved people in Malaysia. This article will be focused on the counselor’s professional preparation in conducting the group with ethical consideration as a part of study conducted. Participants’ brief reactions to the group experience will also be presented.
