Abstract

The flow of refugees from various countries facing military conflict or threatened by political unrest and instability has become a serious international concern particularly to the countries that are hosts to the massive displaced population of world refugees. The presence of sizeable refugee populations in host countries has created both financial and administrative challenges that are threatening the economy, particularly of Muslim host countries. The governments of these countries are faced with a significant financial burden. However, a Muslim host country has potential funds such as zakat which can be a potential solution to refugees’ problems by helping them to be financially independent. Therefore, this conceptual paper aims to develop a Musharakah Mutanaqisah model using zakat funds, which can be used to help join the labour force in their host country and be productively, contributes to their socio-economic independence as well as to contribute to the economic growth of the host country. This paper adopted a qualitative approach in order to implement the designed model. The proposed model contributes as a financing model that will enhance refugee’s financial independence as one of the zakat recipients.
