Abstract

Unprecedented advancement in medical technology and its rapidly growing field of allied sciences indisputably have contributed significantly to the treatment of diseases and fixing inborn defects. However, such medical facilities challenge many traditional age-old conceptions such as one`s attitude towards diseases, natural deformities and even “life” and “death”, and continues to do so unabatedly. Contemporary jurists have been dynamic enough to deal with issues connected to the end-of-life care, such as euthanasia, brain death and have differed on their wide ramifications on the patients, relatives and medical care providers. Critics, however, believe that the juristic micro-treatment of such issues is inadequate to thrush out larger ethical implications of medical interventions towards the end-of-life according to the Islamic outlook. In consequence, a plethora of methodological approaches to best deal with such issues have emerged. This study, therefore, will present a compact view of end-of-life challenges and the proposed approaches to deal with them ethically for the prime purpose of stressing the pivotal role of an integrated juridical framework.
