Abstract

This book is a compilation of 8 papers that separated into two parts, i.e. Part 1- Construction Cost, and Part 2- Contract Management. Each part reflects the focus and contents of the paper and the authors’ endeavour to address some of the current issues in the building construction The first part of this book presents selected topics on thedevelopment of life cycle cost (LCC)as an economic assessment technique and other aspects of cost control for building projects in the construction industry. These selected topics enlighten the important and how the building owners and clients canthink holistically and act wiselyto identify potential cost saving and to achieve the best value for money on the investment made on the building throughout anticipated life span. The second part of this book presents selected topics on Shari’ah compliance with regard to the subject matter and mediation in construction contract. These selected topics articulate the overall view of the concept, characteristic, processes and procedures of Shari’ah compliant construction contract and its contemporary issues in the Malaysian construction industry. These selected topics also presents the resemblances and differences betweenShari’ah compliant and conventional with regard to construction contract in the Malaysian construction industry.
