Abstract

This study aims to establish a preliminary checklist of true mangrove plant species in Tanjung Selangor, Pekan, Pahang. Field surveys were conducted along selected trails in Tanjung Selangor, using standard botanical collection technique. Species identification was performed by comparing samples with previous collections and published references, including books and journals. The study identified 18 true mangrove species belonging to 10 genera from 7 families. The family Rhizophoraceae was found to be the most dominant mangrove plant family in the study area, as its species were consistently recorded across all sampling trails. Of these species, Avicennia rumphiana has been classified as vulnerable (VU) by the IUCN. The findings from this study provide essential baseline data that can serve as a valuable reference for future conservation programs in mangrove ecosystems.
