Abstract
The objective of this scoping review was to ascertain the prevalence of factors linked to, and intervention for depression among residents of nursing homes (NHs). Method: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines informed the process of this review. Medline, Scopus, ClinicalKey for Nursing, Ebsco, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were searched using the date range of 2017 to 2022. Results: The review utilised thirty-one studies, the results of which revealed a wide range in the prevalence of depression from 10.2% to 84.3%. The factors associated were demographic, physical, psychological, and socio-cultural, while intervention included arts-related, physical-based, psychological, religion-based, and a combination of psychological and spiritual therapy. Conclusion: In revealing a wide range of prevalence rates, multifactorial contributors, and diverse intervention approaches for depression among older people living in NHs, this review offers valuable insights that would assist healthcare providers and policymakers in addressing this complex issue.
