Abstract
Conventional impedance measurements conducted in laboratory environments typically employ bulky and expensive impedance analyzers. In recent years, portable impedance monitoring systems have been developed across various fields to overcome the limitations of traditional benchtop instruments. In this work, a wireless impedance data acquisition system was designed to obtain measurements from an Electrical Cell-Substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS) sensor. The system uses CT-Uno and PmodIA, enabling impedance measurements to be monitored wirelessly through the ThingSpeak platform. The functionality of the system was tested by culturing and monitoring the growth of A431 skin cancer cells on the biosensors. The cells’ growth was monitored over three days, with data from each sensor collected every 12 h for a total of 72 h. The system successfully acquired measurements from a sensor in three minutes, transmitted the data wirelessly to the ThingSpeak server, and achieved portability using a battery. The monitored growth of A431 cells using this device exhibited standard behavior consistent with the theoretical cell growth curve. The results of these tests demonstrated that the device is both compatible and suitable for monitoring cell growth. The successful integration of the wireless data acquisition system represents a significant advancement in the field of cellular monitoring and holds promise for a wide range of applications in ECIS.
