Abstract
X-ray imaging uses ionizing radiation to generate diagnostic images and unnecessary radiation exposure can pose potential risks to the patient. One factor contributing to the unnecessary radiation is retaking the X-ray images, which can increase waiting time.A good image quality is a major factor that allows physicians to interpret the image most accurately, correctly and timely. This study assessed the significance of retake examination and image quality during Covid-19.The retrospective study was conducted at Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre @IIUM.A total of 83,155 images were thoroughly analyzed using SPSS software version 28.The study showed a significant negative correlation in the retake image between pre- and post-Covid- 19,but a significant positive correlation between during and post- Covid-19.On the other hand, multiple linear regression based on the ANOVA test shows a significant correlation exists between pre-,- during- and post- Covid-19 of the percentage of retakes. The random images pre-, during and post-the pandemic were sent for blind review to a single radiologist. The images were scored based on 6 elements: exposure, contrast, sharpness, noise/artefact, position and collimation.Ultimately, the total scoring number will be added to finalize excellent, good, fair and poor image quality.During the Covid-19 period, approximately 33.33% of the images underwent evaluation for fair image quality.Notably, no comparisons available for fair image quality between the pre-and post-Covid-19 periods. Based on these results,it is clearly shown that the pandemic has totally hit the performance of the radiographer by reducing the image quality taken, but there is no significant correlation in retaking images for the particular year.
