Abstract
The genus Syzygium comprises 1800 species that belong to the family Myrtaceae. As the largest woody genus of flowering plants worldwide, it exhibits a vast distribution range extending across Africa, Madagascar, Asia, and the Pacific. Several species are used as flavoring agents for their attractive glossy foliage, whereas other species are ornamental. In addition, numerous Syzygium species are known for their traditional uses such as in the treatment of burns and wounds, and as a pain reliever in dental care, as well as treating tooth infections and toothache.
