Abstract
In today’s multicultural and multireligious societies, fostering harmony and mutual respect among diverse religious communities is more important than ever. This study explores the innovative use of interreligious dialogue assignments as a pedagogical tool in religious education, specifically designed to promote understanding and social cohesion between Muslim students and their non-Muslim peers. Through these dialogues, students engage in meaningful exchanges about their religious beliefs, practices, and values, leading to a deeper appreciation of both their own and others' faiths. The primary purpose of this study is to demonstrate how such assignments can maintain and enhance harmony within diverse educational settings. By encouraging open and respectful conversations, these dialogues aim to reduce religious prejudices, dispel stereotypes, and build bridges between different faith communities. The study examines the role of these assignments in fostering empathy, critical thinking, and the skills necessary to navigate religious diversity constructively. Student reflections and dialogue outcomes in the academic assessments are analysed to evaluate the effectiveness of interreligious dialogue assignments in promoting harmony. The findings suggest that interreligious dialogue assignments are a powerful tool for enhancing religious education, not only by enriching students' knowledge but also by actively contributing to the maintenance of social harmony. This innovative approach is proposed as essential for preparing students to engage thoughtfully and peacefully with religious diversity, thereby supporting broader societal efforts to maintain harmony and coexistence in a multicultural world.
