Abstract
The Moroccan Arabic dialect, also known as Darija, is a large variety of Arabic spoken in Morocco. This article aims to explore the factors contributing to the formation and development of Moroccan dialect, in addition to identifying linguistic, historical, and political influences. This study was conducted using an inductive and analytical method, where the two researchers collected some previous research on the history of Morocco and its linguistic development and selected all the facts that were applicable to the title under discussion. Then the two researchers analyzed all the relevant information until it became valid to reach the results. The induction begins by examining the roots of the Moroccan Arabic dialect, tracing its origins to Standard Arabic and the subsequent influence of other languages, namely Tamazight, French, and Spanish. When analyzing what was extrapolated, the researchers found that it shed light on the influence of the processes of linguistic communication, borrowing, and adaptation on phonology, morphology, and vocabulary in the Moroccan Arabic dialect. In conjunction with this, the article delves into the historical factors that contributed to the formation of the Moroccan Arabic dialect, including the Islamic conquest of the Maghreb region, and the subsequent waves of immigration and settlement. The political aspects around Arabization in Morocco's educational system were also explored, which also contributed to how Moroccan Arabic is practiced today. Overall, this article provides a comprehensive analysis of the contributing factors that shaped the development of Moroccan Arabic, and emphasizes the interplay between linguistic, historical, and political influences, providing a deeper understanding of the unique characteristics and development of this important variety of Arabic.
