Abstract

This study describes the development of a passive acoustic speed detecting system, designed specifically for motorcycles, in order to address the demand for more precise speed monitoring techniques. Accuracy of conventional speed detection techniques is frequently compromised by low-frequency signals released by moving vehicles. Because of its unique characteristics, we apply passive acoustic technology to solve this problem. Our approach consists of developing an acoustic model of motorcycle noise, constructing a reliable measurement setup, and assessing the system's performance in real-world scenarios. By using advanced signal processing methods and the Doppler effect, we are able to use spectrograms to provide precise speed predictions. According to experimental results, the system is effective up to an accuracy of 88.36%; with a correction factor, this accuracy rises to 96.27%. There is room for improvement, as seen by the 5.62 km/h and 2.35 km/h root mean-square errors. Subsequent investigations will concentrate on estimating speed in real-time and enhancing the model's resilience to various vehicle kinds, ultimately enhancing transportation safety and effectiveness.
