Abstract

************************************************************************* Entrepreneurial commitment is a dimension that always receives research attention, because it is one of the factors that motivate someone to venture into a career in the field of entrepreneurship. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), is a versatile and evergreen model that is often used to measure entrepreneurial commitment. This research aims to explore the role of mother tongue and the influence of elements of the TPB model, and is enhanced with cultural identity as an additional independent variable on entrepreneurial commitment. The TPB factor has three variable elements, namely Attitude towards Behavior, Subjective Norms, Behavioral Control and the additional variable of Cultural Identity. While the Mother Tongue will act as a mediator and the dependent variable is entrepreneurial commitment. For the purpose of this research, a total of 426 IIUM students were involved as respondents to get data to be analyzed. This explanatory research will use quantitative research methods. SPSS version 26 and SmartPLS 4 were used to measure and evaluate the influence of mother tongue on entrepreneurial commitment. Research findings show that mother tongue is accepted and has a significant positive influence on behavior with a t value of 3.278 and a standard deviation of 0.013. While the p value is 0.001, which is smaller than 0.005. Subjective Norm through the BM mediator, shows a t value of 3.033 and a standard deviation of 0.012. While the p value is 0.002, smaller than 0.05. Behavioral Control through the BM mediator, showing a t-value of 3.358 and a standard deviation of 0.012, and a p-value of 0.001, smaller than 0.05 and Cultural Identity through the BM mediator, showing a t-value of 4.651 and a standard deviation of 0.030. While the p value is 0.000, smaller than 0.05. The values achieved are very good, acceptable and significant. Based on the findings from the research that has been carried out, the researchers found that entrepreneurial behavior is also influenced by the mother tongue which has the power to influence entrepreneurial behavior among IPTA students in Malaysia. Findings from the research results can be used by researchers, policy makers and entrepreneurial ecosystem players to generate more sustainable entrepreneurs.
