Abstract

The ever-evolving landscape of the global economy demands a comprehensive approach to human capital development to foster adaptable and resilient workers. The Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) introduces challenges requiring a workforce adept in advanced technologies like AI, robotics, and IoT. The shift towards remote work and the increased reliance on technology due to the Covid-19 pandemic accentuates the need for a skilled workforce capable of navigating the fast-paced changes. Occupational safety and health considerations in IR 4.0 extend beyond physical risks to include mental and psychosocial aspects, complicating the integration of conventional skills with advanced technology. The emergence of Industry 5.0, emphasizing human-machine collaboration, highlights the necessity for holistic human capital development. The questions of preparedness and sustainability in this technological-economic boom echo the importance of aligning human capital development with the United Nations' SDGs 2030 agenda. Malaysia's commitment to inclusivity underscores the government's role in ensuring comprehensive, progressive, and responsive coverage for all workers, ultimately contributing to a socio-economic environment that benefits all.
