Abstract

International treaties are concluded between States that have different ideologies and cultures, including Muslim States who apply Islamic law to varying degrees. Treaties may have objects and purposes as well as provisions that may not be fully compatible with Islamic law. The aim of this chapter is to figure out what Muslim States could do to harmonise Islamic law with a treaty during the process of its negotiation and drafting, as well as when considering to ratify or accede to it.
