Abstract
While the chapters in this book were written at the height of the pandemic in 2021, this book is still very much significant in providing lessons not just for the future Malaysian government but others as well, especially in Southeast Asia. The chapters in this book show that the relationship between government management of the pandemic is highly related to public trust towards the government even if said governments tended to be more authoritarian, as are the case in certain Southeast Asian countries, or came to power non-democratically such as what happened in Malaysia in 2020 and 2021. In this concluding chapter, we will briefly summarise the important findings of the book especially regarding the role of government in facing a crisis, address weaknesses and limitations of the study, and propose future studies that could be made to enrich our understanding of politics and governance in Malaysia and Southeast Asia as we move towards a sustainable future.
