Abstract

Massive Online Open Courses or MOOC made their debut in 2008 and revolutionised the higher education scene, providing wider access to courses and universities, and remodel university education. The attraction of MOOC was simple: learners get to study for free, and at a fee, obtain certificates of completion) from prestigious universities and famous scientists and educators. Now, MOOC is no longer just casual learning for enthusiastic people but has moved towards training and retraining professionals. Relatively it is massive, in terms of its reach still open, but the emphasis is now on the online courses part and ways in which this could be leveraged. The business model for MOOCs has also matured with multiple pathways for revenue generation. When this book was written, the MOOC agenda has just hit the peak of the micro-credential hype. In this book, learn about: 1. Malaysia’s collective efforts when it took the step of nationalising the MOOC agenda for the public universities, with the Ministry of Higher Education leading the charge. 2. How more universities are jumping into the bandwagon of MOOCs, leveraging on the power of just-in-time, just-enough and just-for-me learning. 3. Best practices of Malaysian public universities in realising the MOOC agenda implementation on a massive scale to provide ubiquitous content access for all students regardless of their home institutions.
