President's Welcome
Dear Members and Friends,
Warmest greetings to all of you!
I wish to draw your attention to the 5th Biennial
Asian Society of International Law Conference to be held in Bangkok
between 26-27 November 2015. The theme of our biennial conference this
year is “International Law and the Changing Economic & Political
Landscape in Asia” to reflect the various recent developments in our
Asian region both politically and economically that would require
reappraisals, reconsiderations, new legal dimensions, and profound
understanding.
The
conference is intended to cover as many aspects of all these changes
insofar as we, as lawyers in the region as well as our lawyer friends
from outside the region, should need to get accustomed to in order to
assist our works and our jobs in our respective capacity. These should
include, for instance, the legal aspects on regional economic
integration and cooperation, investment, free trade areas, financial
cooperation, commercial arbitration, international intellectual property
protection, international taxation, political and social
integration and cooperation, transnational crimes, international
humanitarian law, international adjudication, dispute resolutions,
legal impacts on the environment and energy, and impacts on the
legal dimension of doing business in various parts of our Asian region. I
am certain that this year biennial conference will provide great
opportunities for everyone involved in any dimension of these changes to
benefit from the exchanges of ideas, to reinforce their comprehension
of the changes, learn from each other’s experiences, and enhance their
capacity to cope with any legal aspect of these changes.
As
the incumbent President of the Asian Society of International Law
2014-2015, I wish to personally invite all of you to Bangkok and take
part in our 2015 conference.
In
addition, Bangkok will also host the Asian Society of International Law
Inter-Sessional Conference under the theme “The Rule of Law and
Development Nexus: A New Deal for Asia?” on 4-5 June 2015. This
Inter-Sessional Conference is supported by the Thailand Institute of
Justice (TIJ) under the auspices of HRH Princess Bhajara
Kitiyabha. The conference will address such issues as the rule of law
and sustainable development, international law on organized crime and
drug control, protection of women and children, the rule of law and
justice reform, and ASEAN integration. All members of Asian Society of
International Law and friends are most welcome to apply to attend this
very timely inter-sessional conference.
I
shall look forward to welcoming all of you both in June and November. I
am sure you will find the vibrant city of Bangkok and the depth and
usefulness of both conferences more than worthwhile to make your trip to
Thailand this year. Further information can be found in this website.
Thank you very much for your attention.
Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai President of the Asian Society of International Law 2014-2015
